Birmingham Lives is a unique organisation,
formed in 2000, specifically for running projects like the Billesley AGElink
project on which this book is based. We provided the necessary links and skills
to run a successful collaborative project, involving groups as diverse as care
homes, local history groups, libraries and schools.
For the Billesley AGElink project,
Billesley Primary School recorded the lives of older people living in their
community using art and craftwork, cooking, drama, singing, voice recordings,
video, photography, story writing and story telling.
In this book the children discover the answers to many questions, including: what is a mangle? How exactly do you play whip and top? When were there back-to-back houses in Birmingham? Where is it best to go during an air raid?
